Christopher is the founder and executive director of Outdoor Asian, a nation-wide organization seeking to build a diverse and inclusive community of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the outdoors. Outdoor Asian started as a multimedia platform lifting up stories of individuals and histories in the outdoors to reflect on our ever-evolving relationship to ecology and nature. Over time, it has been growing into a national network that not only supports and encourages individuals of all ages with local outings and trips but also provides support to those wishing to pursue professional interests in the outdoor recreation and environmental sectors. Christopher first began hiking and camping in the Pacific Northwest with his family who provided him a Buzz Lightyear pack when he was six. He holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Biology from Swarthmore College where he first became passionate about environmental justice and decolonizing the science of ecology and “wilderness”. He has conducted research on the impact of climate change in western Mongolia and attended the Peoples’ Summit at the United Nations Framework on Climate Change. He has had the privilege to work and learn from many grassroots environmental justice organizations across the United States including Serenity Soular, Dine Relief Initiative, GRuB (Garden-Raised Bounty) and Got Green. Christopher is now based in Everett, WA where you might find him rock climbing, scrambling peaks, foraging for mushrooms, walking long distances via sidewalk or making gloomy art inspired by the Mountain Loop Highway.
