The Culture

The best thing about working at Backcountry Pulse is: We embrace vulnerability, grit, and courage. We create all-encompassing learning environments where we can equally learn as much as we teach and get to experience a multitude of incredible cultures  at each of our course locations around the globe.

When we’re not working, we’re: Learning and growing. Pushing our limits mentally and physically.

What we’re reading: Training for the New Alpinism - Steve House, Braiding Sweetgrass- Robin Wall Kimmerer, The Atlas of Beauty -  Mihaela Noroc, Down the River - Edward Abbey, Hidden Life of Trees - Peter Wohlleben, Riprap and Cold Mountain Poems - Gary Snyder

What we’re listening to: Everything. From jazz, blues, folky melodies, old school hip hop and punk, funky reggae, indie rock, punchy bass,  dark pop, electric tunes, and singer/songwriters.

If they made a movie about our workplace, it would be called: Stepping on Legos (*laughing* because home with my children is where this operation takes place)

Inclusion in the outdoors matters because: Just as our ecosystem requires the diversity of microorganisms,  plants, and animals, our physical spaces REQUIRE a multitude of cultures, genders, sizes, and economic statues to grow and thrive.

Five years down the line, it’s our hope that: We are removing barriers and seeing working mountain guides, outdoor educators, and wilderness emergency responders that better reflect the intersectionality of ALL who aspire to turn their passion into a career in wilderness spaces.

The One-Year Goals
